About

I am a longtime Austin, Texas musician. I grew up in Baltimore and moved to Austin in 1979, best choice I ever made. I was a wannabe musician and when I arrived here, I started playing with a band that drew 1,000 people a night on a Tuesday, at Liberty Lunch…..Steve ShoresThe Lotions, Auditorium Shores, 1980. Austin

I am married and have 2 adult “kids” from my first 2 marriages. Like I said, I’m a musician, took me a long time to figure out that I am supposed to BE a good catch.

I love to travel. Mainly, I have been to Europe 13 times…Spain (twice), Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland (6 times), Germany (6 times), France, my favorite (10 times), Italy (3 times), Hungary, Greece. I have also been to Turkey (Ephesus), Denmark and Norway. I’ve been to the Mayan Riviera a few times, in Mexico and used to border hop at Nuevo Laredo, all the time before it got iffy down there.

I am a 9th grade “drop-out” who loves to read history and have been blessed in that regard, seeing many of the places I grew up wishing I could see. You know how they say when you want something, tape a photo of it on your bathroom mirror, so you look at it every day, to manifest it? Well, I believe that is what my dozens of photo books about, Rome, Greece, France, Switzerland have done for me. I have been to so many places that I used to drool over in my books. They have been dropped into my lap…

I play a lot of music. My apprenticeship with Freddy Powers is my most substantial accomplishment. He wrote 41 Merle Haggard songs and is responsible for my playing with Merle and Willie Nelson, as well as, being invited to play at the Grand Ole Opry. I have a Bee Gees Tribute band and a Beach Boys Tribute band, My main band , of 37 years is The Mau Mau Chaplains, an 11 piece reggae band that plays every Wednesday night on 6th Street in Austin. I have play with my partner in that band, Moe Monserrat, for 37 years. He and I also co-founded our Country music band, Stop the Truck.

I sell cars at Austin Subaru by day, because all highly accomplished Austin musicians must have a day job. I love it. It’s easy, a social visit with a car at the end. Never been the pushy car salesman. People hate that and I like people.
